Jesus speaks of childlike faith

The nature of man causes us to reach out to rich, self assured, upbeat, healthy people, but Jesus spoke of children as most likely to follow Him. The texts used show the wisdom of accepting Jesus in humble submission.

Jesus defined the family. We need to accept membership with childlike faith.

Who is my mother? and who are my brethren? Behold, my mother and my brethren! My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of The Father and do it.

Do the worldly wise not understand The Father’s simple instructions?

I thank you, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you hid these things from the wise and prudent and revealed them unto babes.

Come unto me, all of you that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart; and you shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

What was it you disputed among yourselves by the way? If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all and servant of all. Verily I say unto you, except you be converted and become as little children, you shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. He who humbles himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And he who receives a little child in my name, receives me. For he that is least among you, the same shall be great. But whosoever shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he was cast into the depths of the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.

Take heed that you despise not one of these little ones, for I say unto you, In heaven their angels always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.

Childlike faith and understanding are essential to our Savior’s family.

Suffer the little children to come unto me and forbid them not, for of such is the kingdom of heaven. He who does not receive the kingdom of The Father as a little child, shall in no wise enter therein.

The Priests and Scribes replied, as they observed children singing praises to Jesus, do you hear what these say"? And Jesus said:

Have you never read, Out of the mouths of babes and infants you have perfected praise?

Jesus often referred to His followers as children. This implies an humble position. That does not relieve us of the responsibility of learning of Jesus and His teachings.

Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be children, but in understanding be men.

Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord. Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.

Likewise, you younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yes, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resists the proud, and gives grace to the humble.

Let us learn to submit as Jesus taught.
