Jesus and the Ten Commandments

I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in the heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, or serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me: and shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; the Lord our God is one Lord. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength. This is the first and great commandment.

Jesus magnified and simplified the law.

It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word from the mouth of God. … It is written again, You shall not tempt the Lord your God. … Get behind me, Satan, for it is written, you shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.

… blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. … But whosoever speaks blasphemy against the Holy Ghost has no forgiveness, neither in this world, neither in the world to come; but is in danger of eternal damnation.

When the Holy Spirit directs a servant of Jesus, others must listen.

… Swear not at all; neither by heaven, for it is God's throne; nor by the earth, for it is his footstool; neither by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. … let your communication be, Yes, yes; No, no; for whatsoever is more than these comes of evil.

Pray after this manner: Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. …For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory for ever.

The light of the body is the eye: Therefore if your eye is focused on the word, your body shall be full of light. But if your eye is focused on the world, your body shall be full of darkness. … If your whole body shall be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light as when the bright shining of a candle gives you light.

Christians shall live the light Jesus taught: without displaying hypocrisy.

No man can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and material possessions. You lack one thing. If you will be perfect, go your way, sell all that you have and distribute unto the poor; … And come, take up the cross daily and follow me …

Possessions must not be more important than serving the Heavenly Father.

When you pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed by thy name. Thy kingdom come…

… unto him that blasphemes against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven.

A new commandment I give unto you, That you love one another; as I have loved you that you also love one another.

This commandment is often ignored.

If you love me, keep my commandments. … He that has my commandments and keeps them, he it is that loves me. …If a man love me, he will keep my words, …But that the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. …

As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you . Continue in my love. If you keep my commandments, you shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love.
