Jesus and the Ten Commandments

THOU SHALT NOT STEAL

You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

It is written again, You shall not tempt the Lord your God.

Stealing is an insult to our Heavenly Father.

Therefore all things you would have men do to you, do you to them; for this is the law and the prophets.

Beware of false prophets which come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

Do these prophets steal?

… from within, out of the heart of men proceed evil thoughts, thefts, …

You know the commandments, You shall not steal.

Sell that you have and give alms. Provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that fails not; where no thief approaches , and moth does not corrupt. For where your treasure is there will your heart be also.

Is it not written, My house shall be called of all nations, the house of prayer? But you have made it a den of thieves.

Woe unto you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widow's houses and for a pretense make long prayer.

This is a terrible method of stealing.

… this poor widow has cast more in than all they which have cast into the treasury. For all these have of their abundance cast into the offerings of God. But she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.

Are the rich stealing when they give sparingly?

Those who have the light of the Gospel must be prepared to use the light to benefit others. Christians must utilize their talents. Is, taking for my own use, that which the Heavenly Father has given to be used for others, stealing?

Depart from me, you cursed, into everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me no meat. I was thirsty and you gave me no drink. I was a stranger and you took me not in; naked, and you clothed me not, sick, and in prison, and you visited me not. … Inasmuch as you did it not to one of the least of these, you did it not to me.

Herein is my Father glorified that you bear much fruit. So shall you be my disciples. As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Continue in my love. If you keep my commandments, you shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love.

A new commandment I give unto you … love one another, as I have loved you.

Stealing is not acceptable for those who love others. Rather than taking for himself, that which belongs to another or to the community, a Christian will give of that which he possesses to benefit others.
