Exodus 20:16

THOU SHALT NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS.

Matt. 22:39; Mark 12:31

You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

Matt. 12:35-37

A good man out the good treasure of the heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things. … every idle word that men shall speak they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by your words you shall be justified, and by your words you shall be condemned.

Mark 4:24; Luke 8:17,18

For there is nothing hid which shall not be manifested, neither was anything kept secret but that it should be known. Take heed what you hear; how you hear. With what measure you mete, it shall be measured to you.

Both listening and talking are a serious matter.

Matt. 5:5,7,9

Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God.

Meek, Merciful, Peacemakers do not use false witness to accomplish their goals.

Matt. 5:14-16; Luke. 11:33

You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid. No man when he has lighted a candle, puts it in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick; that they which come in may see the light, and it gives light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

False witness cannot live in this light.

Matt. 5:19-24

You have heard, it was said by them of old time, You shall not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment. I say unto you, he who is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment; and he who hates his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment; and he who shall say to his brother, empty one, shall be in danger of the council. But he who shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire. Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar and remember that your brother has aught against you, leave your gift before the altar and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother and then come and offer your gift.

Our gifts are not welcome if we knowingly allow a brother to feel that we have wronged him. False witness is surely included.

Matt. 7:12; Luke 6:31

Therefore all things you would have men do to you, do you to them; for this is the law and the prophets.

Does anyone want to be the victim of false witness?

Matt. 7:15,16,20; Luke. 6:43-45

Beware of false prophets which come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly they are ravening wolves. You shall know them by their fruits.

Matt. 18:10,15

Take heed that you despise not one of these little ones … If your brother trespass against you, go, tell him his fault…

These two commands relate to and work with each other.

Matt.19:18; Mark 10:19; Luke 18:20

You shall not bear false witness.

Matt. 22:39; Mark 12:31

You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

Matt. 24:11,12

And many false prophets shall arise and deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall grow cold.

False witnesses may appear to be successful.

Matt 24:24; Mark 13:22

For there shall arise false Christ's and false prophets. They shall show great signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, the very elect.

Love for our Heavenly Father and for our fellow men will keep us from false witness.
