Many people right-off the Ten Commandments--perhaps too soon?
Followers of Jesus will use His words as the criteria for their actions. His words teach as the Heavenly Father taught since the beginning of time. The Ten Commandments were understood and recognized by many early civilizations.
One of the most startling pieces of evidence of this fact is the recognition of the seventh day of the week as a rest day. Most ancient calendars accepted this fact, even though the Sabbath was not used as the concept requires.
The ten commandments as given to Israel have been recognized as a good basis for moral values by many well known leaders. Our forefathers used the ten commandment ideas when they wrote laws for the United States of America. Jesus did not build His ministry on these laws. He went to the heart of the matter and used the concept of loving the Heavenly Father and fellowmen; with a special emphasis on loving other Christians as He loves us. However, He referred to and taught the concepts of the ten commandments as a help in understanding His core values. The early Church added, "… abstain from pollution of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood", Acts 15:20 to the ten commandments.
